VOLODYA MAKAROV

Volodya Makarov received his training at the Xharkiv Ballet School. From there he furthered his dance knowledge at the Virsky Ballet Studio, where he was chosen to become a member of the Pavlo Virsky State Dance Company. He was a revered male soloist and cast member of the ensemble for 17 years. In 1990, he joined the Hopak Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, with whom he was an instructor and soloist for three years. Volodya has taught extensively across Canada, and is currently the Artistic Director of the Zorianka Holy Cross Dancers in Edmonton. His wealth of experience will increase any dancer’s learning curve! |

DOUGLAS RACHINSKI

Douglas Rachinski began his Ukrainian dance training at the age of 10, and joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers in 1985. Doug served in the Company’s debut position of Artistic Coordinator (1993 - 94), and performed leading roles in 1991 (Traveling Chumaky), 1995-96 (Night of Perun), and 2001 (Shumka’s Cinderella.) In 1995, Doug opened Dance Unlimited, offering training in tap, jazz, ballet, Ukrainian, hip hop and musical theatre, and authored Syllabus for Ukrainian Dance, a Ukrainian and character/ballet training program for students 6 years of age and over. Altanets’ welcomes Doug and his wealth of knowledge he brings to this summer’s dance program! |
